PESHAWAR?-?The administration has yet to take steps to seal offices of 27 private security agencies in accordance with directives of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Home and Tribal Affairs Department.

Through some highly-placed official sources, Pakistan Today came to know on Friday that a couple of days ago, the Home Department cancelled licences of 27 private security agencies.

In this respect, the Home Department directed the administration of various districts to sea offices of all the private agencies. However, the district administrations failed to implement the directives.

The sources said around 70 private security agencies were functioning in the province and 27 of them had failed in getting their licences renewed therefore on these grounds, the licences of these agencies were declared cancelled by the Home and Tribal Affairs Department.

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has already initiated steps for streamlining affairs of private security agencies. It did not allow them to work with foreign directors. Similarly, the government has directed the Home and Tribal Affairs Department to compile data of all employees of the private agencies.

Karl Rove's Crossroads GPS faces third FEC complaint | The Raw ...

A third complaint has been filed with the Federal Election Commission alleging that Crossroads GPS, a group co-founded by Republican strategist Karl Rove, has been unlawfully hiding its donors from the public by masquerading as a ?social welfare? organization.

Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington (CREW) filed the complaint on Tuesday, claiming the pro-Republican group failed to report TV ads it ran against three Democratic Senate candidates to the FEC.

?Crossroads GPS wants to have its cake and eat it too. Karl Rove?s secretive 501(c)(4) wants to run political ads without complying with the disclosure rules applicable to such ads,? said CREW Executive Director Melanie Sloan. ?By disguising political ads as issue ads, Crossroads is trying to do an end run around the law.?

Crossroads GPS contends that all its ads are ?issue ads,? which are ?a position statement about, or a discussion of, public issues.? But CREW alleges that the three ads constitute independent expenditures, which are communications ?expressly advocating the election or defeat of a clearly identified candidate.?

The distinction between issue ads and independent expenditures is an important one. Crossroads GPS is registered with the IRS as a tax-exempt 501(c)(4) organization, allowing the group to raise unlimited sums from wealthy individuals and keep the identity of those donors a secret. But 501(c)(4) organizations are prohibited from campaigning ?on behalf of or in opposition to any candidate for public office.?

If Crossroads GPS is found be to making independent expenditures, it would be subject to federal reporting requirements like other political committees.

Earlier this month, Crossroads GPS aired an ad that accused former Virginia governor and Senate candidate Tim Kaine (D) of being a ?cheerleader for massive spending.? The ad urged the residents of Virginia to tell Kaine to ?stop backing reckless spending.? But Kaine could not do so even if he wished. His term as governor expired in January 2010.

In June, the organization aired an ad that attacked Heidi Heitkamp, a Democratic candidate for Senate in North Dakota, for endorsing President Barack Obama?s health care reform law. The ad urged the residents of North Dakota to tell Heitkamp to ?support the full repeal of Obamacare.? However, she has not held public office since January 2001.

Similarly, in May, Crossroads GPS aired an ad attacking Bob Kerry, a Democratic candidate for Senate in Nebraska. The ad urged the residents of Nebraska to tell Kerry to ?support balanced budgets.? But as with Heitkamp, Kerry has not held public office since January 2001.

CREW said the ?only reasonable interpretation? of the ads is to encourage actions to defeat the Democratic candidates.

Obama campaign chief counsel Robert Bauer and the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee have also filed complaints with the FEC alleging that Crossroads GPS has violated the Federal Election Campaign Act.

"But what about the kids?" the Penn State supporters ask, as their worry lines become more deeply engraved in their disbelieving faces.

"What about the innocent kids? They didn't ask for this! They don't deserve to have bad things happen to them!"

Sadly, as was the case with far too many Penn Staters in the 14 years that Jerry Sandusky turned their campus into his own perverted playland, the outrage being expressed is not in defense of childhood sexual abuse victims.

No, the kids these people are so concerned about are the Nittany Lion football players. You know, the 18-, 19- and 20-year-old "kids" who could be in for some sad times in the place they know only as "Happy Valley."

The "bad things" that could happen to them include the suspension of the football program at Penn State. That's right, the program that is so proud of announcing itself to the world as "We are ? " might very well have to edit their chant to, "We were ? "

In the wake of the scathing Louis Freeh report released last week, detailing the systematic cover-up and concealment of Sandusky's serial rape of children in and around the Penn State football facilities, the calls are growing louder around the country for the "death penalty" to be imposed on the program.

Now, if the calls were coming merely from disgusted fans, disappointed columnists and loud-mouthed talk show hosts, the threat of a complete football shutdown at State College might not mean much. When such penalties are entertained by the president of the NCAA, however, even those trying to shut their eyes and plug their ears in a feeble attempt to make the entire scandal disappear snap to attention.

"I don't want to take anything off the table," NCAA president Mark Emmert told PBS this week, when asked about possible punishments for Penn Stained University. "I've never seen anything as egregious as this in terms of just overall conduct and behavior inside a university and hope to never see it again."

Emmert was loathe to compare the Penn State situation to the one involving Southern Methodist University in the 1980s, which remains the only NCAA member institution to have all football operations at the school suspended for an entire season or longer.

SMU lost its entire 1987 season because of repeated recruiting violations, and after losing more than half of their scholarship players, who were allowed to transfer to other schools without penalty, was unable to field a team in 1988. Continued...

The once-rising Mustangs program returned in 1989, but as a shell of its former self with a group of undersized, under-talented players, and the inability to recruit better ones thanks to a 55-scholarship reduction over four years, also imposed by the NCAA.

The death penalty decimated the SMU program for more than 20 years, and it is only now starting to recover.

Penn State's punishment must be worse.

Much, much worse.

Opponents of the proposed death penalty at PSU argue Sandusky's crimes did nothing to give the program a competitive advantage, and such a severe NCAA punishment is not warranted. SMU's recruiting scandal, much like USC's improper payments to star players and their families that have them serving a four-year probation, were intended to make the football team better. Penn State's scandal is a criminal matter, they argue, and off-limits to the collegiate governing body.

They're wrong.

While Joe Paterno's teams didn't gain an on-field advantage from concealing Sandusky's sickening pattern of pedophilia, the program itself was allowed to keep its reputation intact, keep the top recruits coming to campus, and most importantly, to keep the cash machine humming.

Shut them down for five years, and when the last remnants of enablers have long departed State College, let them try and build again.

Sure it will be tough on the existing players, who have committed no crimes and have nothing to do with this.

Getting Into Rentals and Succeeding | The Rental Standard

This week, we spoke with Greg Young of Broker Heaven in New York to help agents and brokers get a better idea of how they can succeed in the rental industry. Broker Heaven is a company dedicated to helping real estate agents reach their potential and maximize business. Read ahead and get Greg?s advice on how you can overcome the challenges of getting into rentals and excel in leasing.

Why should brokers and agents be doing rentals?

Greg: Getting into rentals is an obvious thing for sales agents. Those who aren?t doing rentals are being shortsighted, since leasing provides supplemental income. Rentals move much faster than sales, so renting property gives agents quick money, but the real value is in meeting more people. Real Estate is all about meeting people ? renters you meet this year are possible buyers in the future.

There are two main reasons agents should get into rentals. First, it helps pay their bills.
The second reason, which is far more valuable, is building relationships with human beings they didn?t know before. It?s all about expanding your social sphere of influence: by meeting more people and finding them a rental you?re building relationships. These connections can later source business next year for renting or buying and in addition everyone you meet is source for referrals.

What are the challenges you find brokers have when getting into rentals?

The biggest challenge is psychological. Agents have to want to rent property. Selling is more lucrative but renting will help build their career and ultimately help them sell more property.

For example, an agent has a client in the Hamptons, which has a very robust summer rental market. Most sales agents don?t want to bother renting a house for two to three months and making a small fee. They?d rather sell a house for 5 million, but this strategy is shortsighted. Many potential buyers rent for a year or two before deciding they want to buy. This is similar in Miami?s South Beach or other resort areas, where people will rent before they decide they want to buy a permanent place.

How do you think brokers can make the transition into rentals a little bit easier?

It?s all about education, training, and inventory. A large part of making it in rentals is selling agents on wanting to do it. Most will groan initially and be resistant until they?re educated. Rentals are different from sales, so you need to educate agents on the mechanics of doing rentals, as well as the business side of leasing. In order to succeed in rentals, you also need to have inventory. A huge obstacle in New York is getting?access to inventory, so having a rental network can definitely help you succeed.

What is a common mistake you see brokers make?

Taking a shortsighted approach and thinking about a quick buck as opposed to a relationship with a human being. For example, an agent will go out and show 3 of the best rental properties out there, and ask the renter immediately after which they want. The average New York renter will see 15 properties, so that approach doesn?t work.

Many agents don?t want to do things that don?t have immediate gratification. They need to listen, get to know the renter?s needs, and show them enough properties. The best agents understand that the relationship with a person has much more value than a single rental deal. This is the single most common error.

Another common mistake is lack of product knowledge. Often, agents in their first year of doing rentals face a vast inventory. Agents who don?t get good training risk going with the tour guide approach. Usually, agents will go out every weekend and see the listed apartments. An agent that?s new to rentals should zero in on a neighborhood and focus on something they can make their specialty ??they?ll be much more likely to make money the first year out.

How can brokers maximize their business and close more rentals?

Have a balance of both rental and sales. Think of yourself as a real estate professional: your job description is to find people homes that make them happy. More and more people in the country are renting now as opposed to buying for all kinds of factors. Instead of saying there are ?not enough sales?, focus on finding people homes. Be confident, give great service, find your clients a place to live, stay in contact, and one day you?ll be the one to find them a home. It doesn?t matter if they?re renting or buying. Housing is a basic human need. In the end, they have to live somewhere. Focus on that.

Television writers are the brains behind all the television shows we love to watch. The television writers are responsible for writing a story and script, complete with well-defined characters, conflict, and dialogue. The ever-increasing number of networks and TV channels has more television writers creating new episodes than ever before.
The chief writer or show runner plays the greatest role in composing the TV script. He or she also acts as a liaison with networks and studio executives. The fact that a show runner has to be a manager and an artist simultaneously makes his or her job quite challenging. There is always a squad of television writers to assist the show runner to develop the story arch, characters, and dialogues. There is a huge demand for good television shows. Professional television writers are required to fill in the gap between the demand and availability of quality programs. Similarly, writers are on the constant lookout for new ideas for entertaining TV shows. The constantly-changing storyline of a TV show makes it seem like a living organism. Every day of the week, the writer has to churn out something worth watching in order to ensure the show will not be cancelled.
Stories for television shows are conceived in a writers' room. The ideas are then broken into acts and scenes and finally handed over to a junior writer to be converted into scripts for the production team to use. Sometimes the show runner coordinates the work of several writers working on the script of a single episode. Much re-writing is carried out to refine the script before it is declared fit enough for shooting.
Better writing naturally leads to better programs; better programs increase viewership; increased viewership leads to higher charges for advertisements; higher charges for advertisements makes the network more money; when the network makes more money, the screenwriters can justify earning more money. Networks will conduct research to find out why people watch their TV shows. Television writers and the network tend to select the most marketable concepts so their shows are more likely to become popular.
A newcomer in this profession could work as an assistant writer. Or, if a new screenwriter has a good idea and concept, they can collaborate with professional TV script writers to turn the concept into a polished TV screenplay. There are a number of freelance screenwriters for hire online and some will offer payment installments. This is helpful because you will be able to see the script in progress and in sections before committing to purchase the entire screenplay. It also helps because you can make sure the screenwriter is not veering away from your original concept.

Obama, Romney trade accusations of dishonesty

WOLFEBORO, N.H. (AP) ? President Barack Obama and challenger Mitt Romney have one campaign strategy in common: Each is trying to convince voters that his opponent in the closely contested race for the White House is not trustworthy.

Romney was wrapping up a weekend at his New Hampshire lake house and planned to raise money on Monday with Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal ? one possible candidate for his running mate.

Obama was scheduled to campaign in Cincinnati two days before Romney makes his own visit to must-win Ohio.

The two men were set to continue a bitter debate over who is more trustworthy and use Romney's time leading a private equity firm as a starting point.

Romney's campaign said Sunday that Obama is willing to say anything to win a second term and should say he's sorry for attacking the Republican's successful career at Bain Capital.

"No, we will not apologize," the president responded, adding that if Romney wants credit for his business leadership, he also needs to take responsibility. The Obama campaign says that with Romney at the helm, Bain Capital sent thousands of well-paying American jobs to China.

Questions about Romney's tenure at Bain Capital, the fortune he earned there, foreign bank accounts and his refusal to release more of his tax returns have dogged the former Massachusetts governor. Romney insists he left the firm in February 1999 to take over the Olympic Games in Salt Lake City, but documents indicate he was still in charge as late as 2001.

Romney's advisers, trying to explain the discrepancies between Romney's account and federal documents, offered fresh explanations to shift the campaign back to more comfortable ground.

"He actually retired retroactively at that point," Romney adviser Ed Gillespie said Sunday. "He ended up not going back to the firm after his time in Salt Lake City. So he was actually retired from Bain."

A second adviser, Kevin Madden, said Romney had no choice but to have his name listed on Security and Exchange Commission documents as he sought to transfer the company's leadership to partners.

"The reason that there is a document that had ... his signature is because, during that transition from 1999 to 2002 ... there was a duty to sign those documents," Madden said.

The exact role Romney played at the firm between 1999 and 2001 is important not only because critics have raised questions about his truthfulness, but also because Bain was sending U.S. jobs overseas during the period.

Documents on file with the SEC place Romney in charge of Bain from 1999 to 2001, a period in which the company outsourced jobs and ran companies that fell into bankruptcy. Romney has tried to distance himself from this period in Bain's history, saying on financial disclosure forms he had no active role in the company as of February 1999.

But at least three times since then, Bain listed Romney as the company's "controlling person," as well as its "sole shareholder, sole director, chief executive officer and president." One of those documents ? as late as February 2001 ? lists Romney's "principal occupation" as Bain's managing director.

Romney launched a rare, five-network interview blitz on Friday and insisted he was not involved with Bain during the time it sent jobs overseas and had no day-to-day responsibility for the firm.

"I had no role whatsoever in the management of Bain Capital after February of 1999," he said. "I was an owner, and being a shareholder doesn't mean you're running the business."

That wasn't enough for Obama.

"Mr. Romney claims he's Mr. Fix-It for the economy because of his business experience, so I think voters entirely legitimately want to know what is exactly his business experience," Obama told WAVY-TV in Portsmouth, Va., in an interview taped Saturday and posted on the station's website Sunday

"Mr. Romney is now claiming he wasn't there at the time except his filings with the SEC listing says he was the CEO, chairman and president of the company."

Gillespie appeared on NBC's "Meet the Press" and CNN's "State of the Union. Madden spoke on CBS' "Face the Nation."

Stocks close lower after consumer spending slides

NEW YORK (AP) ? Stocks closed lower for the seventh day out of the last eight on Monday after the government reported that U.S. consumers cut their spending last month.

The news pushed stocks down from the start of the trading day. Though they recovered a bit around midday, all three major indexes closed down. The Dow Jones industrial average dropped 49.88 points, or 0.4 percent, to 12,727.21.

Before trading opened, the Commerce Department said retail sales fell 0.5 percent in June from the month before as Americans spent less on autos, furniture and appliances.

It was the third straight month of declining sales, a worrisome trend. The last time sales slumped for so long was in the fall of 2008, at the worst point of the global financial crisis.

"The summer soft patch is here, and it could be here a while," said Randy Frederick, a managing director at Charles Schwab, the stock brokerage firm. "Consumers are belt-tightening."

Also dampening spirits, the International Monetary Fund said it now forecasts the global economy to grow 3.9 percent in 2013, down from an earlier estimate of 4.1 percent.

The Standard & Poor's 500 index fell 3.14 points, or 0.23 percent, to 1,353.64. The Nasdaq composite index fell 11.53 points, or 0.4 percent, to 2,896.94.

Companies that rely heavily on consumer spending were among the weakest on the New York Stock Exchange. Home Depot fell 64 cents, or 1.2 percent, to $51.45. Lowe's Cos. lost 92 cents, or 3.4 percent, to $25.80.

Industrial stocks also fell sharply. General Electric and Caterpillar, a heavy equipment maker, each fell about 1 percent. GE lost 18 cents to $19.59. Caterpillar lost 92 cents to $81.15, one of the biggest losses among the 30 stocks that make up the Dow average.

Comments from Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao over the weekend also weighed on the market. Wen said his country's economy has not yet entered a recovery and "economic difficulties may continue for some time." Some of the weakness in China comes from the debt crisis in Europe, which has crippled spending on imported goods.

In the Treasury market, the yield on the benchmark 10-year Treasury fell to 1.45 percent from 1.49 percent late Friday as investors sought the relative safety of government debt.

In Europe, borrowing rates for Italy and Spain rose again, the latest signal that bond investors are leery of the finances of those countries. Stocks fell 2 percent in Spain and 0.4 percent in Italy. Benchmark indexes in Germany and France were flat.

The U.S. corporate earnings season resumes in earnest this week with reports from major companies that cover a wide span of the economy. On deck Tuesday are Harley-Davidson, Coca-Cola, Goldman Sachs and Johnson & Johnson. Intel and Yahoo also report this week.

Other stocks making big moves included:

? Visa rose $3.06 to $127.15 and MasterCard rose $7.29 to $436.89. The two giant payment processing companies, along with major banks, settled a seven-year old lawsuit with merchants over fees they charge when customers pay with credit cards.

Klug said businesses that subscribe to cloud-based services save money because they no longer have to buy expensive computing equipment or software. Instead, they lease computing, data-storage and software services on a per-use basis, allowing them to scale up or down as needed.

?It?s really a game-changer as far as how it?s changing IT departments,? he said.

Spectrum Technology is itself a small business, with just five employees including Klug. He said the company is able to provide cloud services affordably by partnering with a firm called LevelCloud, a wholesaler of cloud-computing services.

Chad Trott, president of Phoenix-based El Sol Construction, said he became a Spectrum Technology customer in October 2010 after realizing how much money he had spent on now-obsolete Web servers and other high-tech equipment.

Trott estimates he has saved at least $45,000 since switching to cloud-computing services. He said outsourced IT services are particularly useful for the construction industry, which tends to go through frequent boom-and-bust cycles.

?With cloud computing, you can grow and expand as needed,? he said. ?It?s really a dream come true.?

Klug said IT-industry analysts expect a mass migration of businesses to cloud computing by April 2014, when Microsoft Corp. plans to stop providing security updates and customer support for the Windows XP operating system and Microsoft Office 2003, both of which remain popular with businesses.

The end of support for XP and Office 2003 means businesses will have to upgrade to new operating systems and office software, he said, and switching to a cloud-computing provider will make that transition far less expensive.

A shift to cloud computing does have drawbacks, industry analysts say. One problem is control. Companies using cloud services are giving up a significant amount of control over their data to an outside company. Another is security. Cloud-based services require a constant, back-and-forth stream of data over the Internet, which can be far less secure than working with data inside a desktop or on a local-area network.

While some experts say the cloud-computing revolution will be a big job creator, it has resulted in the downsizing of many in-house IT departments and is expected to bring about even more layoffs.
